Local produce in markets across Canada for December

Well, winter has officially kicked off, hasn’t it?! Even if it only officially begins on Dec. 21st, we can already feel it taking its toll on stalls at the grocery store: more imported or greenhouse-grown fruits and vegetables, less choice, higher prices are amongst the signs that winter has come. Of course, finding and eating local produce won’t be easy. But it’s doable: Just make sure you opt for the produce on this list and read the labels!

Likely local produce in Canadian grocery stores in December

Remember: This list serves as an indication of what’s most likely to be local in your area. Whether we end up being right or wrong depends on a grocer’s suppliers and their policies regarding local sourcing. We also worked with many sources, most of which who didn’t specify whether a local veggie or fruit was from the fields or the greenhouses. But since it’s December, well… You can pretty much assume everything to be from the greenhouses!
